E-drug: Essential drug mission Afghanistan
------------------------------------------------------------
Dear colleagues,
More than a year ago we started analogical activity in promoting
Rational Drug use in Primary Health Care in the Northern Caucasus
(for Chechnya's IDPs) under the shield of WHO/EURO
Pharmaceuticals and Technology (Special project for NIS) and
since this time a lot of different materials was created and several
workshops was provided. All of them foreseen meeting with local
needs, and were based on existing WHO papers and
recommendations (including Emergency Health kit, of course). I
think that nowadays we have positive outcomes from our activity,
but to achieve a full success we need to do more and more.
From the organizational point of view taking into account this
experience I could add that when starting of such an activity you
need to begin from the coordination and ensuring of qualitative drug
donations among biggest NGOs (main donation flows),
development and introducing state and local essential and trusted
OTC drug lists (correlated with the local clinical epidemiology and
self-treatment traditions data), development and introducing
standard treatment guidelines based on EDL and existing
epidemiology, development and introducing standard self-treatment
(self-medication) guidelines based on developed OTC list and
existing traditions. Each step must be followed by training activity.
Yours faithfully,
Prof. Vladimir S. Shoukhov, M.D., D.Sci (Med)
