Satellite Meeting on: Overcoming barriers on access to care

The Global Care Financing Network is a project jointly coordinated by
the Center for Pharmaceutical Policies at the Sergio Arouca National
School of Public Health, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Ministry of Health,
Brazil, UNAIDS, Geneva and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Our
main objective is to discuss and share experiences about financing care
as well as ways to improve access to care for People living with
HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). We hope you can join us in the discussion of this
important subject.

Organization Involved: Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health,
Brazil (ENSP/FIOCRUZ - Secretariat of the Global Care Financing Network
for PLWHA), UNAIDS, Geneva and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), and Pan
American Health Organization (PAHO).

Objectives:
¬ To discuss the progress made since the Bangkok AIDS conference on the
topic of access to ARVs: What changes have been put in progress?
¬ To understand which strategies of price reduction may be employed in
the procurement of ARVs for the care of people living with HIV/AIDS
(PLWHA): Are costs on a downward trend?
¬ To discuss the price negotiation process and outcomes for ARVs in
Latin America and the Caribbean: Which stakeholders have influenced the
process? What are the achievements? Which have been the main
determinants for success?
¬ To discuss potential constraints that may jeopardize access to care:
How are Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) affecting access to care in
developing countries? How has the Doha Declaration been implemented
throughout the region? Are regional and bilateral FTAs hampering care
and treatment?
