Development of a Manufacturing Process for Artesunate: Laboratory Services
Interested companies are hereby invited to submit expressions of interest.
Applicants will receive the full project description (Terms of References) and will be formally invited to submit proposals.

Brief project description:
The objective of this development study is to identify a cost-effective and environmentally friendly process for the manufacture of artesunate in East Africa.
Because the procedure for the reduction of artemisinin to dihydroartemisinin [DHA] on a large-scale is already available, the activities should focus on the conversion of DHA to artesunate by avoiding halogenated solvents.
In the first phase of the study, the feasibility of the conversion DHA → artesunate is to be demonstrated on a 20-g scale.
In the second phase, the scale up of the identified procedure is to be performed on a 10-L scale.
Artemisinin (5 kg), analytical reference samples for DHA and artesunate, as well as the analytical specifications for artesunate will be provided.
After the first phase (feasibility study) an assessment will be made to determine if and to which laboratory the scale-up-study will be contracted.
A detailed tender dossier can be requested by filling in and returning the form at the end of the invitation.
The rules for awarding contracts as well as the evaluation and award criteria are explicitly defined in the tender dossier.
