Health Information/Waystations/Staging Posts
--------------------------------------------
Dear friends and colleagues,
This is to let you know that we now have a website up and running at:
http://www.iwsp.org
This contains both of the Health Information for Development questionnaires
and a collection of other information about the project, as well as about
the Information Waystations and Staging Posts proposal. The questionnaire
is being translated into French and Spanish. If anyone could help us with
Portuguese, Kiswahili or other widely used languages, please get in touch.
A text version of the questionnaire is also included below.
THE PROJECT BRIEFLY:
The Health Information for Development project was launched in January
2000, and aims to compile a Global Directory of Health Information Resource
Centres by August 2000, working with a wide range of partners throughout
the world. Funding for this project has been provided by the Bill and
Melinda Gates Children's Vaccine Program at PATH (Program for Appropriate
Technology in Health). This is a philanthropic, public domain project.
Please see the website and questionnaire at: http://www.iwsp.org
The Health Information for Development project is seen as the first phase
of the much-larger, $45 m/GBP30 m Information Waystations and Staging Posts
project, which aims to establish a global network of 1,000 health
information resource centres that will provide locally appropriate content
on health issues, reinforcing (not replacing) existing health services and
education systems. Candidate centres for strengthening will be drawn from
questionnaire respondents. Funding is currently being sought for this
five-year project.
