Dear e-drug members,
Don't miss your chance!
Registration closes on June 21st for the Health Supply Chain Capacity Development training at Oxford, UK ((June 23-276, 2014)
The key to supplying essential medicines to save lives in developing countries is by having a well-functioning health supply chain system which ensures availability at service delivery points. This requires knowledge and understanding of how to implement a comprehensive and systematic supply chain systems strengthening programme.
This is why PSA is running a course in Supply Chain Capacity Development in Oxford, UK, 23rd-27th June and in Nairobi, Kenya, 14th-18th July, 2014.
Background
Health systems strengthening and the development of the national supply chain are crucial for scaling up medical aid. Supply chain management, or PSM, is increasingly seen as a prerequisite for making essential medical products available to end users in a sustainable manner.
Increasingly low and middle income country governments are requesting their partners support them in strengthening supply chain systems for health products to promote self-sufficiency and reduce their reliance on external expertise. But Supply Chain Capacity Development (SCCD) is a complex and costly undertaking requiring skills beyond operational supply chain expertise; it is about systemic thinking all the way to the last mile, on a sustainable basis.
SCCD requires the hard skills for planning, execution and monitoring as well as mastering supply operations. Most of all, SCCD is about excelling in the art of advocacy and building coalitions with stakeholders far beyond the supply chain context.
Without the right mindset, capacities and collaboration model, SCCD programmes may become a hinderance rather than a help. Money and good intentions are not enough.
But where do you begin if you are asked to ‘do something to strengthen your national health supply chain capacity’? Learning about the basics in the first stakeholder meeting is too late.
This is why PSA equips course participants with the knowledge of SCCD essentials before leaping into planning and implementation.
The course includes:
Planning for SCCD;
Programme Execution;
Progress Oversight and Impact Evaluation.
