[e-drug] Hospital alliances in China

E-drug: Hospital alliances in China
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

[I very much hope that E-druggers can assist Dr Haichao Lei in
developing this issue. Anyone with experience in the pharmaceuti-
cal sector in China knows that a lot of work needs to be done to
get service delivery (especially hospital service delivery) to be in line
with public health needs. Studies like the one of Dr Haichao Lei
canbe an important step in that development. HH]

Dear collegues,

I am a health economist at the Department of Health Economics in
Beijing Centers for Public Health. I am working on a research project
of hospital alliances (group, trust or merger interchangeablely). In
recent two or three years, hospital alliances began to emerge in
China. Generally and usually, several hospitals merge together to
share resources and establish referal systems in the network. In this
network, there is usually a relatively large hospital in a dominant
position. It often supplies management and technicians to the other
hospitals, which are mostly relatively small. In China, there are
various opinions on this development. Some experts regard the
phenomenon as monoply building in the service delivery market.
Others think it is useful to save resources and promote economic
scale.

I would like to know about international experiences in this field.
Does anyone know experiences or literature on the development of
hospital alliances? Suggestions and comments are also welcome. I
would also like to collabrate with foreign experts on this topic.

Thanks in advance!

Best wishes!

Yours,

Haichao Lei Ph.D., Director
