E-DRUG: Improving community pharmacy practice
---------------------------------------------
Respected E-Druggers
In most of the developing countries the community pharmacy practice is in
doldrums. Lack of qualified pharmacists is the basic problem.
In India we have more than 500,000 pharmacies run by petty traders. Although
the govt insists on the presence of qualified pharmacist, 90% of pharmacies are run without them.
I request honorable members of the group to advise on the following issues.
1. what are benefits to society if there is modest increase in the petty trader functional competency and basic knowledge?
2. How to go about building capacity in these dispensing retail pharmacists?
3. Information of organisations/Individuals who can provide assistance.
4. With a highly skewed doctor population like in India in favour of metros-the dispensing pharmacist is the first point of contact for large percentage of population. Is there any systematic way to build capacity with clear priorities on distance education based model.
