[e-drug] Improving the regulatory assessment of new drugs

E-DRUG: Improving the regulatory assessment of new drugs
--------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

We would like to inform you of an initiative aimed at improving the
regulatory assessment of new drugs in developing countries that is currently
taking place. The initiative, launched by the World Health Organization,
consists of workshops on strategies and methods for
assessing available information to be used in the drug registration process
aimed at professionals working in the field. So far, workshops were held in
The Philippines and Tunisia in 2002, with positive remarks by the
participants. Another is now being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and
others are planned, one of which will take place in China.

More information on this initiative can be found in the July 19th issue of
the Lancet (Pandolfini C, Bonati M. Reggi V, Figueras A. Regulatory
assessment of new drugs in developing countries. The Lancet
2003;362:249-50).

Also, the material used in the workshop in Manila is available to anyone
interested at the following address:
