E-DRUG: Indian Government promotes improved prescribing of drugs

Dear E-Druggers,
Recently Govt. of India has directed all Hospitals/ Health Institutions to take necessary measure to resist irrational prescription generated by the prescribers vide an order dated 17th February 2011.
This order also directed all Specialist/Doctors in Govt. Institutions/ Dispensaries/ Health Institutions to prescribe Generic drugs to the maximum extent possible.
This is a welcome move to promote Rational Use of Medicines resulting improved access to medicines.
It may be noted that earlier some states have already issued order to Doctors working in Govt. sector for prescribing Generic medicines only, e.g. West Bengal, Bihar etc.
Hope proper implementation of these orders will improve the health care facility by improving access to medicines.
