E-DRUG: INDICES

Dear Colleagues

re: NETWORK OF DRUG INFORMATION CENTRES

In May 1995 the German Foundation for International Development (D.S.E.) hosted
an international seminar in collaboration with the World Health Organization,
Geneva. The meeting was held in Berlin and attended by numerous international
and African delegates. The objectives of the meeting were to promote the role
and value of drug information centres and to write guidelines for the
establishment, running and support of such centres. It was hoped that the
meeting would include access to drug information in developing countries,
particularly Africa.

At that meeting INDICES, (International Network of Drug Information Centres),
was established by a core group of participants. This concept has resulted in
much discussion over the past year. Interest has been expressed from many
quarters. Colleagues working in drug information have offered general support
and affirmation of their interest in such a network. It appears that the idea
has also found support amongst international groups and organisations with an
interest in drug information. In addition there are many parties wanting to
set up drug information centres, particularly in Africa and the developing
world. A network would be very a very useful and supportive resource.

To this end we envisage setting up an electronic network of persons working in
drug information and drug information centres. This network will give us the
opportunity to explore various ideas and issues pertaining to the setting up and
running of drug information centres throughout the world. If you are interested
in participating in such a discussion group, would you please E-mail your
