[e-drug] International Certificate Course Promoting Rational Use of Antibiotics at IIHMRU

E-DRUG: International Certificate Course Promoting Rational Use of Antibiotics at IIHMRU
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-Druggers,

We would like to extend a very warm invitation for the International
Certificate Course on Promoting Rational Use of Antibiotics to be held at
IIHMR University, Jaipur, India, from February 13 to 17, 2017

BACKGROUND
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most serious public health
threats in the world today. Unless it is contained there is a risk
returning to a pre-antibiotic age when people died from common infections
and many of the benefits of modern medicine needing antibiotic cover were
not available, such as surgery and chemotherapy. A major contributor to AMR
is the inappropriate use of antibiotics, at all levels of health care. In
many countries, the use of antibiotics is not monitored, antibiotics may be
obtained easily by consumers without prescription and there is no
coordinated program to promote more appropriate use antibiotics. The WHO is
extremely concerned about AMR and has developed a Global Action Plan to
contain AMR, which countries endorsed, and are now implementing. A vital
part of this plan is the setting up of surveillance systems for
antimicrobial drug use and resistance and the establishing of policies to
curtail inappropriate use of antibiotics and improve infection control.
This course focuses on how to measure antibiotic use at different levels of
health care and how to establish a plan of action for improving the
appropriate use of antibiotics at different levels of health care.
