PROMOTING RATIONAL DRUG USE
15-26 March, 1998, Kathmandu, Nepal
A two week course for physicians, pharmacists, programme managers,
officials from ministries of health, universities, private
organisations, and other interested in improving the use of drugs.

Lee, Dr. Dennis Ross-Degnan, Prof.Budiono Santoso.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The course will focus on methods of studying inappropriate drug use.
This will include identifying problems involved in drug prescribing,
dispensing, and consumption. Participants will learn practical
approaches in applying key concepts of essential drug lists,
indicators of drug use, and methods for changing inappropriate drug
use behaviour.
COURSE DESIGN
The course will be conducted in English and will consist of
presentations, discussions, group activities and field work. The
course will be highly participatory, where interchange of skills and
experiences among participants will add to the dynamics, richness of
the activities and learning. Course materials were developed by MSH;
the Harvard Policy Group; WHO; and INRUD core groups. Experiences
gained in the field by participating countries and INRUD member
countries and experiences presented at the 1st International
Conference on Improving Use of Medicines, Chiang Mai, Thailand 1-4
April,1997 will be examined. Partnership with WHO, will ensure that
participants will be exposed to a wide range of international
experiences and materials.

COURSE FEE AND APPLICATION
The fee of US$ 2550 (for local participant without hotel
accommodation, breakfast and dinner, fee US$ 1500) covers tuition,
course materials, shared accommodation in a four -star hotel. Tuition
will also cover breakfast and lunch. Participants will be provided US$
20 per day to cover expenses for regular dinners that will not be
provided by the organizer. Participants should plan to bring
sufficient money for incidental expenses like laundry, postage,
telephone calls, souvenirs, etc. Airfare and health insurance are
the responsibility of the sponsoring organization. Details about
exact course location and lodging will be provided at a later date.
