E-DRUG: Invitation to submit research proposals

E-DRUG: Invitation to submit research proposals
-----------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

The following is a very long and detailed posting requesting letters
of intent from researchers who wish to conduct studies to improve the
use of medicines. Because of the importance of this subject to many
E-druggers, it is being posted in its entirety.

Interested researchers, please respond directly to the coordinating
center (Email: health@hiid.harvard.edu) with your questions rather
than to E-DRUG. Thanks and good luck!

REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS:
INTERVENTIONS TO IMPROVE THE USE OF MEDICINES

A consortium of organizations that includes the Applied Research
on Child Health (ARCH) Project, the International Network for
Rational Use of Drugs (INRUD), the Rational Pharmaceutical
Management (RPM) Project, and the WHO Action Programme on Essential
Drugs (WHO/DAP) is interested in advancing the research agenda on
improving use of medicines in developing countries shaped by the
recommendations of the recent International Conference on Improving
Use of Medicines, held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in April, 1997.

The sponsoring organizations are prepared to support research on
interventions or policies to improve the use of medicines,
especially by health providers. They are seeking letters of intent
from researchers in developing or transitional countries who wish to
conduct studies on this topic. Interventions which address the
topics outlined in the attached document will be given priority.
Some, but not all, letters of intent will be followed by requests
for full proposals, and a small number of promising research teams
will be invited to attend a proposal development workshop to
formulate a full proposal. If you or someone else from your
institution intends to apply but for some reason cannot make the
October 22 deadline, contact us as soon as possible.

Applications should be sent by mail, fax, or e-mail to the
coordinating center for the research initiative at the following
address:
