UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, is convening a
roundtable on Thursday 29 October from 12:00 to 14:00 on the UNITAID HIV
Patent Pool, at the occasion of the launch of the related MSF campaign:
'Time for action: Making HIV medicines accessible for patient from
developing countries'.
UNITAID, the international drug purchasing facility, has undertaken first
steps to create a voluntary patent pool for AIDS medicines for developing
countries.
This event aims to present the UNITAID patent pool to relevant
stakeholders (European Commission, UNITAID, MSF, EATG, representatives
from the pharmaceutical industry) and interested parties, and provides an
opportunity to explore together next steps of its creation â seeking to
engage all stakeholders in a constructive dialogue at an early stage.
Based on the results of the discussion, UNAIDS will publish a
comprehensive article on its homepage (www.unaid.org).
