E-drug: Mapping medicines supply management systems in countries
----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear all,
Since 2007, WHO has provided support to selected countries to carry out a two phased assessment of medicines supply systems.
The first phase involves the Mapping of medicines financial flows and procurement and distribution systems. The objective of this mapping is to establish a synopsis of the medicines procurement and distribution systems and identify all the partners involved in the system in countries.
The second phase which involves an in-depth assessment of the medicines supply system aims at identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the system around the medicines supply management cycle.
The results of both studies are relevant to the Ministry of Health in providing evidence to inform planning for medicines procurement and distribution and also to inform the need for coordination among the partners involved in the system.
To date, these assessments have been carried out in 16 countries: Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Congo - Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Madagascar, Mali, Nigeria, Central Africa Republic, Rwanda, Senegal, Sudan, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia.
For reports published by the countries, go to the WHO/EMP website below and check under various country documents:
