The latest issue of Medicine Pricing Matters - the bulletin of the
WHO/HAI Project on Medicine Prices and Availability - is now available
on HAI's website http://www.haiweb.org/medicineprices
The lead article focuses on the recently published Lancet article on the
price, availability and affordability of 15 essential medicines in 36
countries.
There are interesting articles on pricing policy reforms in China, and
the establishment of retail outlets in India that sell only unbranded
generics. In addition, if patients have to pay for medicines in the
public sector, there is a call for governments to pass on low
procurement prices.
This month WHO's Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office published a
report on medicine prices, availability, affordability and price
components across 9 countries in the region. Key findings are outlined
in the bulletin and an email is given for ordering a copy of the report.
On HAI's website you can find more information on medicine pricing
issues, how to survey prices and availability using the WHO/HAI
methodology, a database of medicine prices from 50+ surveys etc.
