E-drug: Medicines promotion on Internet
---------------------------------------
(copied from the FIPlist)
Dear Colleagues,
If you are a long time member of the FIPList you will remember my
email about a WHO Resolution on the Promotion and Sale of
medicines on the Internet.
I understand that there is to be a consultation meeting in Geneva
to consider what action WHO should take on this matter.
For once you, as individuals, have an opportunity to become
involved.
I want to prepare a document for the meeting and need some help
from you. What are your views about the whole situation -
marketing, ordering etc of medicines which may be sold legally
(or not) by someone in one country and supplied to a customer in
another where such sale may be unlawful? Do you have any
realistic proposals about corrective action?
There is also the question of mail order although the WHO concern
seems to be more towards the sale of medicines without a
prescription.
Please let me have feedback so that I can put the widest possible
view to WHO.
Regards,
Alan W Davidson

The 50th World Health Assembly adopted a resolution in May 1997
asking WHO to study the potential problems of medicines promotion
in the Internet.
