E-drug: Mobilization in Brazil

Dear friends and colleagues,
On behalf of the Rio de Janeiro State Forum of AIDS NGOs we are launching,
on March 5th, 2001, a large communication to over 2,500 organizations in
Brazil and abroad on the Global Day of Solidarity, together with South
Africa's TAC and all the organizations around the globe which are
mobilizing efforts for a wider access to treatment.
We decided to provoke a larger discussion on the issue in Brazil first
utilizing the mailing list of Grupo Pela VIDD/RJ and ABIA and consequently
organise a seminar, in Rio de Janeiro, on March 26th, where the patents
versus public health will be discussed by representatives of diverse social
movements, government and (local and multinational) industry. We have
already invited for the occasion the largest patent law firm in Brazil,
which will be attending the seminar.
We are glad to inform you that the Sao Paulo State Forum of AIDS-NGOs is
organizing tomorrow, Monday 5th, at 11:00 a.m., a demonstration in front of
the American Consulate at the Sao Paulo capital. Please see attached
documents translated.
