E-DRUG: MSF: EU Parliament rejects ACTA (2)
-------------------------------------------
Colleagues
It is big relief to learn that the members of the European Union Parliament have voted to reject the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) put before them by the European Commission. This decision is in right spirit of WHO-WTO joint declaration that health is always before the trade, i.e. public health can not be sacrificed for the sake of TRIPS agreement. The EU parliamentarians have rightly recognized the importance of the access to generic medicines in developing countries.
It is further hoped ongoing discussions between EC and Indian authorities would be pursued keeping same principles in mind.
Yours sincerely
