E-drug: MSF on new GSK preferential prices (cont)
---------------------------------------------
I am most glad that MSF has finally picked up the concern I have been
raising time and again regarding paediatric formulations! It is well
known that paediatric formulations are generally more costly than
adult ones, but
they seem to have been forgotten in the negotiations with industry
for price reductions and access issues for ARVs, Antimalarials, TB
drugs. In fact, I
would recommend that MSF consider seriously a campaign to ensure
equitable access to paediatric drug formulations in developing
countries. I would not
like to repeat the details here but just to note that it is indeed a
great struggle for most developing countries to get paediatric
formulations that are available in other markets! I am constantly
having to prepare in-house several formulations which are available
in the commercial market in
developing countries.
Please remember that children are not small adults and they do have a right
to get their medications in a form that can be easily administered to them.
