E-DRUG: Need for cough mixtures (contd.)

Whenever we talk about rational drug use, and health care as
well, we should make an effort toward a cultural change, which includes everyone. Patients should always have the right to have access to all information concerning their health problems, in an understandable way. Of course, it is easier for us, health workers,
to maintain, through the intervention of a magic device, the "power" to cure (as it has been since primitive times). On the other side,
in many countries, like in Brazil, people have the culture of counseling the use of a medication to another person (like a
neighbor or a relative) when its use is associated with solving a health problem that the "counselour" had, which "looks like" with
the actual problem in question. This is true even in situations
where the medication did not actually solved the problem. When
dealing with a sympton (like cough), the incorrect use of a
medication may delay access to correct medical care, in order to
solve the real problem (like tuberculosis, in the case of cough).
