E-DRUG: New Publication: 4th Ed Emergency Contraceptive Pills: Medical & Service Delivery Guidance
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear e-Drug community,
Please see message below on new EC guidance. Apologies for crossposting disseminating the 4th edition of Emergency Contraceptive Pills: Medical and Service Delivery Guidance, and the two-pager Clinical Summary, produced by the International Consortium for Emergency Contraception (ICEC)
<https://www.cecinfo.org/>
and the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO) <https://www.figo.org/>\.
ICEC and FIGO are pleased to introduce the 4th edition of Emergency
Contraceptive Pills: Medical and Service Delivery Guidance
<https://www.cecinfo.org/updated-medical-service-delivery-guidelines-contraceptive-pills-fourth-edition/>
(2018).
This version supersedes the 3rd edition from 2012, and includes a Clinical
Summary document which highlights essential takeaways. The 4th edition of this guidance provides an update on key issues on which clinical recommendations have changed (or become more specific) or on which we now have more knowledge about. Some of these are mechanism of action, the safety of repeated use, interactions between different types of EC pills, other drugs interactions,
and updated recommendation on use of hormonal contraceptives after EC pills.

For the time being, this document is available only in English, and
unfortunately ICEC has no immediate plans to translate it into any other
language. However, local program managers and providers can adapt this
guidance as necessary to comply with national or other requirements. The
guidance is also a key resource for advocates seeking to improve the EC
access environment.
This review process was led by Cristina Puig Borràs for ICEC, and benefited
greatly from the expertise of an international team of reviewers. We are
grateful for contributions from: *Cecilia Berger; Cristián Jesam G.; Daniel
Davis; Diana Blithe; Elisa Wells; Elizabeth Westley; Francine Coeytaux; Ian
Fraser (FIGO, ICEC Technical advisory group); James Trussell; Jeff Spieler;
Luis Bahamondes; Mario Festin; Mary Lyn Gaffield; Melissa Garcia; Nathalie
Kapp; Raymond Li; Sharon Camp; Vivian Brache; and Wilson Liambila. *
We hope these will be useful in your work, and please share with us if and
how are you using this document.
We hope this will be useful to you in your work in all settings.
Best regards, Melissa
