E-DRUG: NGOs demand that Novartis withdraws legal actions in India (2)

While we are motivated by the concept of essential medicines as a human right, the action of the transnational company is indicative of how the company shareholders money is spent against the social interest at large. NGOs pressing Novartis to withdraw the legal action are infact doing a service by reminding them they they too should have social concern.
The countries which are yet to sign the WTO patent agreement should take a careful note of the perceived threats and ensure due safeguards in ensuring that their country specific laws protect them so that they can not be bullied and cowed by the pharmaceutical industry.
