Regarding the information on benefits and risks of various drugs for
osteoporosis requested by Arturo Marti-Carvajal, the musculoskeletal group
in the Cochrane Collaboration is pulling this together in a series of
sytematic reviews. The Vit D review is on the most recent version of the
Cochrane Library and details of progress about the other reviews (some of
which are fairly close to publication) can be obtained from the
Musculoskeletal Group convenor - Beverley Shea who works at Ottawa Civic
Hospital. her e-mail address is bshea@CIVICH.OTTAWA.ON.CA
In Newcastle we have completed a review of the evidence for the efficacy of
estrogens in osteoporosis and fracture. This is a little out of date but
was written for the Australian government and can be obtained from me by
writing (rather than e-mail) to the mailing address given below. This
report does not include information on the risks.
