E-DRUG: Pharmacovigilance in India - meta analysis
----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear E-drug members,
Greetings,
I am Dr.Akshaya Srikanth, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, University of Gondar, Ethiopia.
I am keenly following a interesting debate in e-drug regarding "How India tackles adverse drug reactions by ignoring data - A Debate" first published on Feb 17 2016.
We would like share our recent study regarding the status of PVPI programme in India through a meta analysis published in PLOS One.
It is unfortunate identified through our meta analysis research that more than half of the health professionals studied were not aware of PVPI and nearly 75% of the health professionals never reported a ADR to PV centers. Further, manifold barriers were identified through our research especially availability of ADR reporting forms at their clinical sites. Our results might be interesting to National and International Pharmacovigilance governing bodies to take some initiations (we recommended some in our paper) that can helpful to strengthen the PVPI programme in India.
Tandon et al. research on 12 PV centers India also highlighted the lack awareness was much higher noticed among pharmacists (83%) compared others health professionals and under-reporting is still a major barrier for PVPI success after a decade of establishment.
A healthy scientific debate is always a source of fantastic initiations.
The findings of our meta-analysis can found by accessing the below link.
