E-DRUG: PLoS.org the open-access publisher joins AED-SATELLIFE
-----------------------------------------------------

Dear colleagues,

The good people at AED-SATELLIFE <http://www.healthnet.org/> have been using the freely accessible online research and magazine articles from the open-access online journal PLoS Medicine <http://www.plosmedicine.org/> for a few years in their e-newsletters called HealthNet News. Containing copyrighted abstracts and full text, HealthNet News is freely available to those who live in poor countries only. Now, we've decided to work more closely together and bring another of our journals, PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases <http://www.plosntds.org/> nto the mix.

We're going to be giving advance notice of upcoming articles to AED-SATELLIFE so that they can pick the most appropriate content and share it with you in this E-Drug forum (www.essentialdrugs.org <http://www.afronets.org/> ) , both an overview of the article in plain English and a link to the full text of the whole article (available to you at no charge.

Here's a little bit more background about both titles so you know what to expect from this expanded relationship:

PLoS Medicine <http://www.plosmedicine.org/> publishes highly-selected papers that address the conditions and risk factors that cause the highest burden of disease worldwide particularly the major biological, environmental, social, and political determinants of health. It also features a lively and sometimes controversial magazine section for comment, opinion and views.

PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases <http://www.plosntds.org/> is the world's first open-access journal devoted to the world's most neglected tropical diseases which affect so many people and it publishes peer-reviewed research on all scientific, medical and public health aspects of them.

Everything PLoS <http://www.plos.org/> publishes is freely available online throughout the world, for you to read, download, copy, distribute, and use (with attribution) any way you wish. No permission required. You can sign up for email content alerts for any or all of the 7 PLoS journals here <https://register.plos.org/ambra-registration/register.action> .

Should you have any questions or comments please send them to me, Liz Allen (PLoS Outreach), lallen@plos.org.
