E-DRUG: Preparing for WHO IGWG? - here are some useful documents
----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear All,

With those of you who are preparing a submission to the WHO public hearing for the Intergovernmental Working Group on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property (IGWG) I want to share 2 very useful documents I came across and that may not have had sufficient attention on the lists:

1) a Joint publication by the South Center and WHO titled: The use of the flexibilities in TRIPS by developing countries; can they increase access to medicines?
Available at:

http://www.southcentre.org/publications/SouthPerspectiveSeries/TheUseOfFlexibilitiesInTripsFinal.pdf

2) Guidelines for the examination of pharmaceutical patents: developing a public health perspective: by Unctad, ICTSD and WHO.
This is a working paper which is open for comments. Available at:

http://www.iprsonline.org/resources/docs/Correa_Patentability%20Guidelines.pdf

It is very encouraging to see WHO's involvement in these type of documents and guidelines. And this should perhaps be highlighted during the IGWG process and certainly encouraged.

Note that the deadline for submissions to the on-line public hearing on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property is 30 September.

You can find more details here:
