E-drug: Prescribing in the Elderly (cont)
---------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
"In all human activities, habits are acquired without much conscious
thought and precribing habits are no exception." quoted form a leading
article in The Lancet 1976. I'm sorry the reference is more than 12 years
old.
Sometimes stating the obvious is helpful. The responses to the questions
do not add up to a convincing argument for disregarding a reference on the
basis of age. The answer to the last question is particualrly pertinent
-"habits change and these should be legitimised from evidence/best practice
perspectives". Agree absolutely about evidence of best practice.
Thedanger is that what is sometimes revered as 'best practice' doesn't have
that evidence base.
The reference should be considered in the light of other evidence, but to
discard it out of hand is probably poor science
