E-drug: Prescription fees (cont)

The common custom in Canada for at least the past 15-20 years has been
for pharmacists to charge a fixed dispensing fee rather than a markup
based on a percentage of the price. If drugs are covered by provincial
drug insurance plans then the dispensing fee is fixed by the government.
If prescriptions are being paid for by private insurance or
out-of-pocket the pharmacist is free to set the dispensing fee.
