E-DRUG: Product patents & drugs marketed in India

For life saving drugs patented in India, having unexpired patents, the government has the option to issue compulsory licences to local manufacturers in India, so that these drugs can be made available at lesser and affordable prices.
As far as taking over of multinationals or alliance partnerships by multinational companies these have been strategies adopted by many companies the world over. Even Indian companies have taken over or entered into alliance partnerships with many foriegn companies.
In era of globalisation such strategies have benefited many subject to sound business prudence, rationality, proper timing etc.
To maintain and sustain lead of Indian companies there is no other alternative but to increase R&D allocation and create the right enviornment for Innovation, make reforms in the present patent regimes/laws etc. This according to me in long run will pave way for significant market share by Indian companies.
