E-DRUG: rationale of dexamethasone combination? (3)
---------------------------------------------------
The stage one answer: The European Union rules require that all active
drugs in a combination preparation shall participate in the
therapeutic effect. This rules out the vitamins. They have no
proven therapeutic effect in the condition to be treated.
Corticosteroids (dexamethasone) are inappropriate for such
trivial conditions as myalgia, bursitis, headache.
The whole idea of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is to
avoid steroids. For this reason, combination of a steroid and a
nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drug is less than rational.
And how about the relative amounts?
And finally: Dexamethasone has so long half-life that dosing 3-4
times daily is ridiculous.
