Hi, Phil. This area has been of substantial interest of my
colleagues (Profs. Soumerai, Ross-Degnan, Mclaughlin) and
myself (all of us are based at the Harvard Medical School).
A literature review "Retail Pharmacies in developing
countries: a behavior and intervention framework" by three
of us is forthcoming next month or so in a special edition
of Social Science and Medicine (edited by Dr. James Trostle,
of the ADDR/Harvard Inst. of Int. development). Another
paper by us is forthcoming in Fall on the impact of a
training intervention on prescribing behaviors. And one more
is under review on the same topic. These all were also part
of my thesis for DrPH degree at Harvard School of Public
Health.
I was formerly director of a WHO/CDR funded, Management
Sciences for Health/Harvard Medical School
collaborative project that produced a training and
evaluation guide for this population (for childhood
diarrhea) and materials for intervening in their ARI
management practices. We also had field projects in Kenya,
Indonesia, and Phillipines.
So, let me know how could I be of help to you. Feel free to
e-mail (pradeep@clinepi.bwh.harvard.edu or
goel@warren.med.harvard.edu), or phone/fax @617.277.3693.
with best wishes
pradeep
