E-drug: Re: SA Clinical Trials Guidelines
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the companies doing clinical trials in South Africa is MDS, Canada's
largest health care corporation and parent of MDS Pharma, one of world's
largest contract research organizations. During the last year, MDS has
acquired US-based Phoenix International and Paris-based Glarif-Cerba. Both
of these acquisitions extended MDS' reach into South Africa. MDS Pharma
employs more than 4000 people and operates in (among other places) North
America, Europe, Israel, Asia, and South Africa. It combines a number of
previous MDS divisions, including MDS Harris, MDS Panlabs (based in
Taiwan), MDS Tricon, MDS Neo-Pharm, MDS Glarif, MDS Clinical Trial
Laboratories and MDS Analytical Solutions. MDS also is one of Canada's
largest venture capital firms, and provides investment capital to start up
companies in the
biopharma/biotech industries.
