Dear Georgina,
Valethamate is an old anticholinergic from the German firm of
Kali-Chemie; it seems to have disappeared from the European
market (not mentioned in the European Drug Directory, and German
trade names no longer in Rote Liste). Indication :"visceral
spasms".
A question of principle: Should the E-Drug system be used for
queries which can easily be found in standard books like Martindale
(XXXI-508) or the Merck Index? To my opinion it should be
reserved for really difficult problems; we should not waste each
other's precious time. All the best.

---Note from the moderator:
If questions can be answered by looking it up in Martindale, I agree
it should not be posted in E-drug. The moderator should have inter-
cepted the message, and will do so next time. Sorry.
On the other hand, posting an example of an old drug still being
used might also help other countries to review these bad drug practices.
And not all countries do have a Martindale at hand.
More 'technical' drug information related questions can soon be posted
in a new conference called INDICES (International Network of Drug
Information Centres). Healthnet has agreed to host that conference.
Interested E-druggers can submit their interest to Leesette Turner at
email: hamis@iafrica.com
There is also ANCHODD, an australian conference for drug researchers.
