E-drug: Re: WHO and the Pharmaceutical Industry (cont'd)
----------------------------------------------------------

Ellen 't Hoen's posting of 4 May raises valid concerns from the NGO
community regarding the appointment of the Merck person to WHO. Subsequent
postings reinforce the perceived need for WHO to 'come clean' on conflict
of interest rules, if any are written down. Bet on the fact that they are
being written at the moment.

The purpose of this message is to address the statement in Ellen 't Hoen's
4 May posting that, "For organisations like HAI, BUKO and WEMOS it would be
impossible to pay the cost for a Geneva based WHO staff member". The
question is: have you NGOs thought about pooling your resources to consider
placing a common-funded candidate in WHO ? Perhaps this is a naive
question. Alternatively, instead of the endless talk about the fox being
among the chickens, have you considered approaching the various
international funding organizations to finance your (eventual) person at
WHO ? It is a new world.
