E-DRUG: Recognition of pharmacists as health care providers (6)
---------------------------------------------------------
Dear colleagues,
since many, many years, at least over here in Germany, I am observing that
the term "health service" is frequently mixed-up or fully replaced by the
term "medical service". This is done wrongly by press people leaving the
impression that both terms are the same. Unfortunately, the medical profession,
in particular from public health, does nothing to take away from this wrong
impression.
Well, we all know that many different professions are delivering
services for better health. For example, surgeons in the medical team, drivers
in the ambulance team and pharmacists in the medicines supply team. Hence, a
big contribution for better health service comes from the pharmaceutical
profession and in this respect it is perfectly right to state that they are
health service providers, too. As pharmacists are by sheer nature health
service providers, I am more worried that some other professions want to
grant this status to us.
With best regards
