E-drug: Rectal Administration Quinine
---------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
Recently, Dr Wyatt from the University of Leeds, UK, mentioned that
quinine can be used rectally by syringe for severe malaria. I would
like to ask people who have experience with this whether there is any
particular age group in which this works best.
In the same message rectal use of non-coated chloroquine tablets was
mentioned, e.g. for vomiting patients with non-severe malaria. Again I
would like to ask whether there is any particular age group restriction
for this way of administering chloroquine.
Thank you for your advice,
Dr F. Le Bacq, D.M.O., Kasama, Zambia.
