[e-drug] RFI: Country Attitudes Toward Generic Substitution (2)

E-DRUG: RFI: Country Attitudes Toward Generic Substitution (2)
--------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Lenny,

I am a US citizen involved in the safety industry and anti-
counterfeiting labeling. It is my opinion that what
influences the gap between generic and brand name market
share is simply the price, the ability to pay premium prices,
and Brand name recognition and trust which is created through
advertising. That is where I come in. If generic drug producers
produce counterfeit drugs...they make more money.

[moderator comment: There is no evidence to relate generic manufacturers
with counterfeiters. Most of the drugs dispensed in USA, UK and several
European countries are generics, and their manufacturers and Regulatory
Authorities make sure they are good quality! Anyway, I would submit that one
would find more counterfeited brand-name products than counterfeited
generics! Let us concentrate on the question why countries go or don't go
for generic substitution. WB]
