[e-drug] RFI: Duplicate reports in spontaneous ADR systems?

E-DRUG: RFI: Duplicate reports in spontaneous ADR systems?
----------------------------------------------------------

Dear all,

My name is Niklas Norin. I work in the UMC R&D team with the development of
statistical methods to improve signal detection in the WHO database.

Everyone in pharmacovigilance is concerned about the negative impact
that duplicate reports have on efficient signal detection from
spontaneous reporting data. We have recently developed a method for
automated duplicate report detection in the WHO database, an article on
which we are about to submit for publication. In this context, estimates of
the overall proportion of duplicate reports in spontaneous reporting data
(in general or, more likely, for a specific data set) would be very helpful
to us. However we are struggling to find references where such estimates are
presented.

Do you know of any studies where the proportion of duplicates in
spontaneous reporting data has been determined (ideally published so that we
could reference it within a publication)?

We would be grateful for any help that you can provide.

Best regards,

Niklas Norin
