MALAHYDE INFORMATION SYSTEMS and
SOUTH AFRICAN ELECTRONIC PACKAGE INSERTS (SAEPI)
SAEPI is a privately funded Internet site which provides the unabridged text of
South African package inserts (data sheets) as approved by the Medicines
Control Council of South Africa.
The purpose of this site is to make the package inserts for South African
medicines freely available in electronic format. The site is not complete,
in that some drug companies have not yet given permission for their package
inserts to be displayed in this format.
The package inserts are indexed in three different ways:
. by Generic Name - the generic name is the one used on the actual package
insert, but INN links and synonyms are being added to the index which will
improve as updates are done.
. by Trade Name
. by Classification - this is the pharmacological classification as given on the
package insert. Please note that this data is often inconsistent so
the index may have a few errors.
Comments and constructive criticism are welcome,
so please feel free to provide feedback
Data not on the Internet site but in our databases include:
* A cross-reference (over 8400 products) accessible both by Generic and Trade
name and allowing for poly-component searches; INN nomenclature,
ATC classification and name of manufacturer
- This database includes products no longer marketed, as well as those whose
names have changed, and those registered but not yet marketed.
- All our data are linked by registration numbers for ease of cross reference.
- A number of homeopathic and naturopathic products are included.
* An electronic library of package inserts of all products including those not
on the Internet site, making a database of over 3700 products.
* A paper library of package inserts of products no longer marketed; to be
computerised.
* Company addresses, telephone and fax numbers.
