E-DRUG: SEAM 2005 Conference starts monday in Ghana
---------------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
The 2005 "Strategies for Enhancing Access to Medicines" (SEAM) Conference starts monday in Accra, Ghana.
The SEAM project started in July 2000, when Management Sciences for Health (MSH, see www.msh.org) received financial support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to implement the five-year Strategies for Enhancing Access to Medicines (SEAM) Program.
The SEAM Program:
* Complements and enhances continuing collaboration between MSH and the many agencies throughout the world working to improve access to and appropriate use of drugs
* Encourages and supports innovative country-level public-private initiatives that can serve as models for countries throughout the developing world
* Supports the development of information, and promotes its accessibility and use
SEAM uses its resources to:
* Identify gaps in access to medicines, vaccines, and other health commodities
* Provide technical assistance for the design and implementation of strategies that will improve both access to and use of essential medicines and other health commodities
* Evaluate the impact of strategies designed to improve access
* Improve access to and use of appropriate information
The 2005 Conference is likely to be the last conference, as the 5-year funding period is ending. The conference agenda available at http://www.msh.org/seam/conference2005/index.html
On the conference webpage you can also download interesting copies of the CARETALK and Nduro Newsletters, which deal with promoting rational drug use and sales in Ghana.
All presentations of the last 2003 SEAM conference are available from:

General info re SEAM programme is at http://www.msh.org/seam
Your E-drug moderator will attend the conference, and would be interested to hear how E-drug can improve coverage of essential drug activities in Africa in the future.
