E-DRUG: Substandard propofol supplied by UNIMED in Zambia (9)

Dear E- Druggers,
I am a Pharmacist from India, worked in various Indian pharmaceutical
companies, involved in inspection of third party manufacturing, and also
served as procurement officer for UNOPS in India, handling procurement of
Pharmaceuticals for government of India under DFID funding and own funds.
In my exposure, I have never come across this company from Amritsar, India.
In my experience, most of the these small and medium size units, try and
get the approval of regulatory authorities of one of the developing
countries or underdeveloped countries and leverage approval of other
country regulatory agencies, through various registration support
agencies. Even though manufacturer is bound to produce and supply quality
medicines, with not enough checks and balances, they try to pass on the
quality compromised goods.
In my opinion, one should also approach Indian Drug control authorities
http://www.cdsco.nic.in/ to have a check on the future supplies from this
manufacturing company.
