E-DRUG: terapirol

20 September 1995

We have received a request from colleagues working with AIS (HAI) Santa
Cruz in Bolivia about a drug KLISODOL produced by ABAGO.
It is a much used analgetic available in the following dosage forms:

Klosidol paediatric drops: 120 mg paracetamol and 400 mg terapirol
Klosidol Comprimes: 70 mg d-propoxifeenchloorhidraat and 400 mg terapirol
Klosidol Ampullen: 38 mg d-propoxifeenchloorhidraat and 1000 mg terapirol

The problem is the following:
They are trying to find out what the ingredient Terapirol is. they have not
been able to find it as a generic name (Martindale does not mention it)
- the firm does not answer their request for further information
- a industry rep told them that "Terapirol is a Pirazolone" and that studies are
available in South America that show safety.
- Doctors they contacted said that it may be a Dipirone or metamizol.

They have not been able to confirm this. Because of the widespread use of the
product they are concerned to find out what Terapirol is.

Does any of you have a suggestion? Please send me an e-mail.

Thanks very much for your efforts.
