[e-drug] Treatment protocols for children (3)

E-DRUG: Treatment protocols for children (3)
--------------------------------------------------------

Hi Laili
I'm not specifically involved in this programme in my country (South Africa), however I have attended a course regarding this programme.

The most important thing will be to indentify common children illnesses in your country and categorise them according to ages such as infant to 2years, then 3 to 5 years ect. Then indentify the length of treatment for each illness e.g 5 days for common cold and flu with amoxicillin, same with the second line therapy.

In my country children treatment is done mostly at local clinics and the nurses receive training, and there is always a review on the treatments. I also have realised that the treatment protocols in this programme differ sliglty with our Essential Drug List i.e the treatment protocols used generally at goverment institutions, so make sure you implement what you think will work practically for this programme even though it may differ slighty with other protocols in your country.

Best wishes

[It is important that treatment guidelines and standard lists match. Review of the list is also important. Next time there is review this issue should be addressed. BS]
