The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an
independent humanitarian organization whose mandate is to provide
protection and assistance for victims of armed conflicts and internal
disturbances, has a vacancy in Geneva for a
Medical Purchaser (pharmacist M/F)
The ICRC Logistics Division manages complex logistics operations
throughout the world in emergency situations. Based in Geneva, the
Medical Purchaser will be responsible for purchasing medical
commodities (drugs, renewable medical supply and surgical
equipment) according to ICRC specification. With worldwide
purchases worth CHF 20 to 30 million, the successful candidate
will:
- Process specific purchase orders and establish contracts and
frame agreements with suppliers and make all related
information available in the Logistics database;
- Negotiate and purchase all specific goods and services
according to purchasing policy;
- Replenish Geneva medical stock (CHF 3 million);
- Optimise purchase strategy and running stocks levels;
- Be the contact person for suppliers.
Experience required:
5/6 years working experience in commerce, industry or
humanitarian organisation of which 2 to 3 years in international
purchasing.
Good product / purchase knowledge, negotiation and competitive
bidding skills in purchasing, management of product portfolio,
purchase policy definition, legal aspects assessment of capacity of
suppliers.
Administrative skills required.
Ability to monitor complex activities with different experts, and to
analyse the relevance of purchase requests.
Professionalism, medical background, integrity, interpersonal skills,
goal focus.
Fluent in English and French, in writing and oral. Other languages
appreciated.
Starting date: October 1, 2001.
