E-drug: Website Global Alliance for TB Drug Development
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
New tuberculosis drugs are urgently needed to help curb the spread
of TB by providing simpler and shorter treatments for all patients
with active TB and effective treatments for resistant strains and
latent-TB infection.
Yet, no novel drug has been developed in 30 years, mostly because
the TB market was not considered attractive by the pharmaceutical
industry.
The Global Alliance for TB drug development, a new Public-Private
Partnership with offices in New York, Brussels and South Africa -
and associated research networks in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin
America - is launching its new, more extensive WEB SITE featuring
the need for Tuberculosis drugs and highlighting how, with public
and private partners, it plans to develop, new drugs to treat this
disease that kills nearly 2 million people every year.
The new and redesigned site offers:
- A special feature section, currently on HIV-AIDS and TB
coinfection
- Insights on the epidemiology of TB
- Facts about the need for new TB drugs
- A scientific blueprint for TB Drug Development
- Data on the pharmacoeconomics of TB drug development
- Details on the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development including
recent developments
- Resources for researchers and journalists
