E-drug: What drugs could be removed from WHO Model EDL?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As part of the preparation for the meeting a research student at the
Massachusettes College of Pharmacy, Tulip Schneider, has
compiled a review of 12 country EDLs and compared them to the
WHO Model list. She has shown that some of the drugs on the
WHO EDL are not on any of the country lists. Obviously drugs for
diseases such as trypanosomiasis may not be on any of the lists but
are clearly essential. Others such as the 4FDC TB preparation or the
ARV's may not have made it on to national list. But others though
such as oxamniquine for schistosomiasis have been replaced. I have
copied the list of drugs which only appear on up to 2 of the 12
country lists and would like comments as to which of these should
be retained.
One other question. Is anyone using ether as an anaesthetic or
could we get rid of it? It is difficult to obtain, explosive and difficult
to use!
