E-DRUG: Withdrawal of Adolexin in India

E-drug: Withdrawal of Adolexin in India
----------------------------------------------------------

In India the Glaxo pharmaceuticals have been marketing the formulation
known as "Adexolin" which is essentially a cheap and very useful
Vitamine A and D preparation. Adexolin was available both in capsule and
liquid form and was widely used by a large section of the patients
especially the young and the old. Now the formulation is being withdrawn
from the market and is not available since more than 6 months. Enquiries
reveal that the company had stopped production of Adexolin, most
probably due to the low margine of profit. There is no alternative drug
available in the market except a few products based on Cod-liver oil,
which is often not acceptable to the patients as well as the doctors,
who prescribe it.

This once again exposes the tactics of the MNC Pharmaceutical companies
which introduces new products with high cost in place of already
existing effective and cheap products in order to make more profits.
They can very well maintain the production of the low profit margine
products as a humanitarian service when already they are making huge
profits on other products.
