E-DRUG: World Contraception Day. Important Role of Contraceptives in Reaching MDG5
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
World Contraception September 26 (WCD) is a worldwide campaign with a vision for a world where every pregnancy is wanted.
Millennium Development Goal (MDG) number 5 calls for a reduction in maternal mortality and universal access to reproductive health. One central component of both of these goals is access to contraceptives, which empowers men and women to make their own reproductive choices.
Contraceptive use reduces maternal mortality by helping women to delay, space, and limit pregnancies, reducing the health risks of frequent and numerous pregnancies and of complications from unsafe abortions due to unintended pregnancies. In the past year alone, the USAID | DELIVER PROJECT has provided support to family planning programs in 53 countries. On World Contraception Day, the project calls for renewed action to achieve MDG5 and shares important resources.
