E-drug: WSJ on Price Markups by Pharmacies in US on some generic drugs (cont)
---------------------------------------------
The key table from the article by Elyse Tanouye from the Wall Street
Journal is on the web at:
http://www.cptech.org/ip/health/generic/nobargain.html
The table shows
(1) the price the generic manufacturer charges to the pharmacy,
(2) the price the pharmacy charges the consumer for the generic product,
and
(3) the price the pharmacy charges the consumer for the brand name
product.
The point of the article is that the pharmacy is ripping the consumer
off. The price of the generic to the consumer is almost as high as the
brand price, even though the pharmacy is getting the generic for a very
low price. The pharmacies are not passing on the savings.

[Note from Moderator: The very interesting table produced by Elyse
Tanouye from the Wall Street Journal was provided by James Love last week.
Unfortunately tables are extremely hard to transmit on the e-drug forum
without getting very distorted. Interested readers can access the original
table at the above site. BS]
